Lara Watterson-Elliott - Word Clouds

Lara began creating ‘Word Clouds’ as gifts for family and friends over four years ago. Her brother and sister-in-law were so touched at the personalisation that went into their anniversary gift that she started selling them from her website, for which profits go to charities linked to “Help for Heroes”. This is a charity very close to Lara’s heart, due to the help they have offered her husband, who served in the army. Lara’s husband Matt has now taken up crafts as a way of combatting his PTSD, he creates fairy doors that combine with Lara’s word clouds with his woodcraft.

Lara has an extensive and varied creative background. After completing a foundation in Interiors at The London Institute and BA Honours Degree in Interiors at London Guildhall University, Lara went on to work for Laura Ashley in their creative department designing the room sets for the 1999 home catalogue. She then went on to work freelance for various design companies including Nicholas Anthony and Plain English, until 2005 when she took a break from Interiors to complete a PGCE in secondary education.  Since then after a teaching position in Buckinghamshire she has relocated with her husband and two sons back to Port Erin, Isle of Man.

Much of the skill involved in the production of her word clouds is trial and error, often being a time consuming process, making sure the personalised words provided to her from customers fit perfectly into the image. She is able to take commissions for just about any image requested, including football and Manx themed images such as her popular TT themed and Manx Landmarks.

Lara has recently joined forces with Linda at The Crafty Fox and created LL Crafts & Gifts as well as pursuing their own ventures.
