Heather DeBacker - Textile Artist

It was through her involvement with the Manx Guild that Heather had the pleasure of learning hand-spinning and natural dyeing.

Inspired by a love of the Island - the land of her birth - she soon realised that Tapestry weaving was the ideal medium for her to enjoy creativity.

For most of her work she chooses wool from local sheep, which is hand spun and then dyed with natural dyes.  These have nature's subtlety of colouring and, as in nature, can mellow with exposure to the light.

The Manx atmosphere of her tapestries is enhanced by mounting them on stone, or on driftwood sticks which she gathers on the shore.

Her tapestries are to be found in homes around the world - having been appreciated by visitors to the Island as well as Manx exiles who feel that they are taking a little part of the Island with them when they leave.
